   Proposal Description:
   Hypotheses:  1. That medications used for AD, particularly memantine are frequently given outside of FDA approved indications.     2. The use of memantine in clinical practice is subject to multiple influences but specific features of AD may be viewed as altering the likelihood of receiving the medication.      Specific Aims:  1. To determine the frequency of memantine use in individuals with ???mild??? AD, using criteria of CDR???1 and MMSE???15, and determine the relationship between severity of dementia and memantine usage.  2. To determine factors associated with use of memantine, to include stage/severity of dementia, ethnicity/race, age, duration of symptoms and behavioral symptoms.  3. To determine whether any ethnicity/race effects seen in memantine use are also applicable to acetylcholinesterase inhibitor use.  4. To Determine whether prescribing patterns of memantine vary by ADRC site, and if so, what site characteristics are associated with this between-site variability.
